Iran Press/ Commentary: The Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, in a telephone conversation with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Friday night, referring to the continuing exchange of messages between Iran and the United States through the European Union criticized the recent anti-Iranian resolution of the US Senate.
"Achieving a lasting, strong, and just agreement requires the US government to make a realistic and courageous decision to make up for the wrong approach of the past," Amir-Abdollahian added.
The eighth round of talks on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which began on December 27, 2021, entered a breathtaking phase on March 11, 2022, at the suggestion of EU foreign policy chief Joseph Borrell, and the negotiators returned to their capitals for political consultations.
The issue of guarantees and the removal of persons from the red list is still one of the cases in which the United States, as a violator of the JCPOA, has not made the necessary political decision to resolve it.
The Islamic Republic of Iran emphasizes that given the West's history of irresponsibility, especially the United States, for the full implementation of the JCPOA, the parties must seek a strong, just, and lasting agreement to reduce the West's alleged concern over Iran's peaceful nuclear program, and it is necessary for Iran to make full use of JCPOA's economic interests.

Accordingly, the Iranian negotiating team has provided practical proposals and initiatives to the negotiating parties, and the set of interactions with the other parties to the negotiations will take place within the framework of red lines.
While the Vienna talks await Washington's political decision on a number of important issues, the US Senate recently unveiled a plan to maintain sanctions against the Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as a plan to prevent the lifting of sanctions against the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, in the event of the possible return of Joe Biden's government to JCPOA.
Hanif Ghaffari, a political expert, sees the coalition of senators from both the Democratic and Republican parties in approving the anti-Iranian plans as a clear indication of their commitment to the "absurd return to JCPOA" tactic, according to which, no action should be taken beyond the suspension of "drip" and "non-operational" anti-Iranian sanctions.
On the other hand, the continuation of sanctions and the use of a dual policy of diplomacy and maximum US pressure on Iran comes at a time when reaching an agreement in the Vienna talks requires the US to renounce extravagance as well as objective and credible actions by this count
The US newspaper Politico quoted a White House official as saying that Washington's position was that it would not remove the IRGC from the list of foreign terrorist organizations unless Iran agreed to take specific steps to reduce security concerns beyond the JCPOA.
However, the main nature of the JCPOA agreement is based on the effective lifting of economic sanctions on the implementation of Iran's nuclear obligations and has basically nothing to do with Iran's defense issues and regional policies.
The continued use of sanctions against Iran, the ongoing US sabotage of the negotiations, and the post-conflict demands show that Washington officials are still pursuing the failed policies of the previous administration (Donald Trump's administration) and they still do not have the necessary political will to make up for the wrong approach of the past and return to JCPOA.
