The "Alexa Internet service," which was dedicated to analysing and ranking web traffic and was affiliated with Amazon, was shut down today after 25 years of operation.

Iran PressAmerica: Alexa's website became unavailable on May 1st. The site's manager did not explain this decision and only thanked the subscribers and the audience and wrote that this decision was tough. 

Alexa was founded in 1996 by two web entrepreneurs, Brewster Kahle and Bruce Gilliat. The website's name was chosen to pay tribute to the Library of Alexandria, Egypt, as one of the most extensive knowledge neighborhoods. The Internet world has the potential to become such a place. 

The company had a toolbar that could tell its users which web page to visit after viewing the page based on user traffic analysis. Alexa also had many features for web admins, such as displaying the number of visitors, total visits, inbound links, average time spent, and the number of pages visited by each user, inbound search engines, for free.

Alexa also helped web admins analyze and review their website by providing charts of the items mentioned over periods of 1 day to 2 years.

Alexa tracks the statistics of users who have the Alexa Toolbar. In 1998, the company delivered a 2TB copy of Web site information to the Library of Congress. In 1999, Alexa was bought by Amazon for $ 250 million.

Amazon turned Alexa into an intelligent search engine, unlike it initially was. In early 2002, Alexa partnered with Google, and in January 2003, it partnered with Open Directory Project. In May 2006, Amazon indexed Alexa search results through Google. In December 2006, Alexa Photo Search was launched.

On November 27, 2008, Alexa announced that it will be retiring because the site's search engine was unsuitable; This happened on January 29, 2009, the company team specialized in ranking the sites.
