Tehran (IP) - Today, Monday, April 25, 2022, is the anniversary of the blatant failure of the US' military attack 'Operation Eagle Claw' on Iran.

Iran PressIran News: Operation Eagle Claw, known as Operation Tabas in Iran, was a US-invasive operation in 1980 ordered by President Jimmy Carter to attempt to rescue 52 embassy staff held captive in Tehran because of espionage.

On April 25, 1980, six C-130 military aircraft and eight US military helicopters entered Iran's Tabas Desert to rescue the hostages, where they were confronted with a dust storm.

The C-130 military aircraft landed in the desert but two of them were stopped due to technical failure, so spoiling the rest of the operation because 6 aircraft were needed to carry forces.

The failure was reported to the White House and the US then President Jimmy Karter issued the order of withdrawal. The aircraft and helicopters got into trouble while taking off from the ground.

A plane and a helicopter collided and both caught fire. Eight American troops were killed in the incident, and the rest of the forces fled Iran with the remaining planes, in full unrest.

Political figures in the US like Zbigniew Brzezinski, the then National Security Advisor, criticized the failure as an incident that created disappointment in the country.
