Millions of Iranians participated in religious ceremonies across the country on Tuesday night to mark the second night of Laylat al-Qadr, one of the most significant hallmarks of the holy fasting month of Ramadan, also known as the Night of Destiny, Night of Measure, or Night of Value. The religious ceremony is coincident with the night of martyrdom of Imam Ali, the first Shiite Imam.

It is believed to be the night when the Quran was first sent down from Heaven to the world and also the night when the first verses of the Quran were revealed to Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

According to the Islamic sources at hand, it is certain that the Night of Qadr was not exclusive to the time of the Prophet (s) and the region of the Ḥijāz. It is something that will continue forever and in all lands.

At this night people stay up and read the Quran and pray to God above. According to  Holy Quran, the angels and the spirit descend on this night by God's permission,  and this night is better than 1000 regular months of the year The  Muslims believe that during Qadr night, every man's destiny for the next year is determined. 219
