Tehran (IP) - The Director-General of South Asia of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran summoned the Charge d'Affaires of the Afghan Embassy in Tehran to strongly protest against the attack on the Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Herat.

Iran PressIran News: Following a rally in front of the Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Herat, in which protesters attacked the diplomatic site by throwing stones, the Director-General of South Asia of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Charge d'Affaires of the Afghan Embassy in Tehran strongly protested the attacks on the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Kabul and the Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Herat.

The Iranian official reminded him of the responsibility of governments in ensuring the security of diplomatic missions and called for legal action against the assailants on the missions of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The Director-General of South Asia of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran also informed the Afghan Chargé d'Affaires that until further notice, the consular sections of the missions of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Afghanistan have ceased their activities to ensure the necessary assurance from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan in the field of full security of the missions of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh on Monday reiterated the definite responsibility of the governing body of Afghanistan in preserving the gatherings in front of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Kabul and the Iranian Consulate General in Herat.

Regarding the security of diplomatic facilities, he stressed: "The complete security of the embassies and missions of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Herat and other cities of Afghanistan must be fully provided and the necessary guarantees must be provided for the safe operation of these missions."

Following last Tuesday's attack by a Takfiri in the courtyard of the eighth Shi'a Imam, Imam Reza (PBUH) holy shrine in Mashhad, two clerics were martyred and one cleric was wounded.

Unfortunately, some video clips and comments are being published on social media with the aim of creating division between the two friendly countries of Iran and Afghanistan, the Foreign Ministry Spokesman added.

These video clips have targeted the sentiments of people of the two countries and require more vigilance on the part of the people and officials of the two countries, he underlined.
