At least one person was killed, and seven others were injured in an explosion near Sidon in southern Lebanon, local media reported early Tuesday.

Iran PressMiddle East: The explosion destroyed the municipality building of Benafoul and damaged a neighboring apartment building.

The blast demolished the building, and army personnel were searching through the rubble for any further casualties, sources added.

The explosion also damaged the town hall nearby.

The rescue work is still underway at the explosion site.

According to some Arab media sources, the explosion occurred near the office of the Shia Amal Movement.

One security source told Reuters the blast was not an act of sabotage without disclosing further details.
