Cristiano Ronaldo became football’s all-time top goalscorer as he scored a hat-trick to help Manchester United to a 3-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.

Iran PressEurope: That win put Ralf Rangnick’s side into the fourth spot in the Premier League, two points above Arsenal who have four games in hand.

They didn’t have it all their own way, however, with Tottenham causing plenty of problems including a first-half penalty that was converted by Harry Kane and an own goal from Harry Maguire to put the hosts on edge.

However, Ronaldo stole the show as his trio of goals put him above Josef Bican to write his name firmly in football history.

His first equaled the record for goals scored by a professional footballer in FIFA-recognised games, his second broke it and his third took it to a level no one thought it would ever get to.

Harry Kane was hoping it would be he whose impact on this game was the lasting one in front of his sporting hero Brady, but his first-half penalty was just a side note in the Cristiano Ronaldo show.

So too was an own goal from Harry Maguire, which briefly threatened to rob United of two points until Ronaldo saved his blushes.

It put Manchester United back into the top four again – for at least 24 hours, anyway – albeit with Arsenal holding four games in hand over their Champions League-chasing rivals.
