Tehran (IP) - The first edition of the Nizami Ganjavi Award was held on Thursday evening in Tehran's Vahdat Hall.

Iran PressIran News: The UNESCO Commission in Iran hosted the ceremony in the capital Tehran, with several artists and cultural figures participating. 

According to the head of the commission Hojjatollah Ayoubi, the ceremony was aimed at reviving the privileged position of Nizami Ganjavi in Iranian culture and literature. 

Returning to the sources of the Persian language and introducing the famous Persian poet Nizami Ganjavi was among the other goals of the ceremony.

His vocabulary treasury, unique illustrations, and eternal wise words in Panj Ganj or Khamsa of Nizami have protected the linguistic and identity borders of the Iranians for centuries.

Nizami Ganjavi is the great Iranian poet, philosopher of the 12th century (1141-1209) who also told the story of “Leyli and Majnun” the epitome of Romanticism, borrowed at the theatricality of the drama.

This piece of theater was the vanguard of “Romeo & Juliet” published by Shakespeare, his most famous piece of classical British scenes of the 17th century after five hundred years later! Thus this is of Nizami, the mystic thinker of Ganja, who has preceded Shakespeare in “Leyli and Majnun” the romantic drama of the 12th century very long time before “Romeo & Juliet“.
