Tehran (IP) - Iran's First Vice President on Saturday called the 2022 FIFA World Cup a good opportunity and a new chapter in expanding bilateral ties between Iran and Qatar.

Iran PressIran News: Iran's First Vice President referred to the negotiations between Iran and Qatar for boosting cooperation to host the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, saying: "The 2022 FIFA World Cup is a good opportunity to develop and deepen relations between Tehran and Doha and can create a new chapter in relations between the two countries."

Speaking in a meeting to review issues related to the 2022 FIFA World Cup  in Qatar on Saturday, Mohammad Mokhber stressed the need to develop a comprehensive plan for joint cooperation between Iran and Qatar in holding the 2022 World Cup, adding: "It can be an important and effective step in advancing the cooperation between the two countries."

The First Vice President also pointed out the vast attractions and opportunities of Iran in the field of tourism, saying: "Iran's participation and cooperation with Qatar to hold the  2022 FIFA World Cup can be a turning point in introducing our country's tourism potential to spectators participating in the 2022 World Cup and foreign tourists."

He called on the Minister of Energy, as the head of the Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation between Iran and Qatar, to formulate a comprehensive plan for bilateral cooperation for the World Cup, to use this opportunity to identify and enumerate areas of long-term cooperation between Tehran and Doha to provide expansion of economic and trade relations between the two countries.

The meeting was also attended by the Ministers of Energy, Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts, Sports and Youth, Roads and Urban Development, Culture and Islamic Guidance, and the President's Advisor on Free Trade-Industrial and Special Economic Zones.

During the event, a report was presented on the negotiations and coordination between Iran and Qatar on Iran's transportation and accommodation capacities to organize the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

The meeting also presented a report on Iran's capacity for air and sea transport and hosting teams participating in the World Cup, as well as the reception and accommodation of foreign tourists and the necessary decisions to lay the groundwork for better cooperation between Iran and Qatar.
