Tehran (IP) - Tehran's interim leader of Friday Prayer says the Ukrainian crisis originates from US adventurism.

Iran PressIran news: Hojjatoleslam Mohammad-Javad Haj-Aliakbari said at the Friday Prayer sermon on March 4: "Today, we are faced with a decorated ignorance, and there is no doubt that the American mafia regime is the pinnacle, symbol and manifestation of this modern ignorance; it is a crisis-making regime living its life through crisis-making."

Haj-Aliakbari stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran opposed the war, believed in respect for all country's territorial integrity, and rejected killing civilians and destroying infrastructures of any country.

He pointed out that the crisis in Ukraine today was the exhibition of Western governance and American double standards.

On Wednesday, February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin officially announced a special military operation against Ukraine's Donbas, east of the country, to demilitarize the region.

The event came after a few days as Russia formally recognized the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk republics in eastern Ukraine.

According to Russian officials, Ukraine has not fulfilled its obligations under the Minsk agreements reached in 2014 and 2015 to resolve the disputes between the separatists and Kyiv.
