Moscow (IP) - The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Russia met with the First Deputy Managing Director of International Business Development and International Affairs at Russian Railways and the two sides reviewed the latest status of cooperation in railway projects, including the North-South Corridor and the electrification of Garmsar-Incheh-Burun railway.

Iran PressEurope: The North-South Transport Corridor connects Northern Europe to East Asia via Iran, the Republic of Azerbaijan and Russia, and the initial goal written for this project is the annual transit of five million tons of goods through this route.

In 2019, a tripartite memorandum of understanding was signed between the Presidents of Iran, Russia and the Republic of Azerbaijan to complete the North-South Corridor.

According to Iran press on Friday, the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Russia, Kazem Jalali, in a meeting with Sergey Pavlov, First Deputy Managing Director of International Business Development and International Affairs at Russian Railways (RZD), referred to the remarks of the President of Iran regarding the development of the railway network and continued that this issue is being seriously pursued in the new Iranian government. Undoubtedly, with the completion of some railway projects inside Iran, the field of combined transportation between Iran and Russia will be provided.

"Relations between the two countries are developing and we are considering solutions to develop cooperation in the rail transport sector, in accordance with the orders of the country's top officials," Pavlov said during the meeting.
