Zelensky announced his readiness to negotiate, while Putin stated that the purpose of the Russian military operation in Ukraine was to defend the civilian population of Donbas, recognizing the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics, and Russian sovereignty over the Crimea.
A new round of talks between Russia and Ukraine will be held on Wednesday in a border area called Pripyat on the Belarusian-Ukrainian border.
