Iran Press/ Iran News: On Wednesday morning, Russian President Vladimir Putin officially announced a special military operation against Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin says he had no other choice than to launch the military operation to stop the Ukrainian military’s interference in two eastern republics that have broken away from Ukraine. Russia perceives NATO’s eastward expansion as a threat.
A United Nations relief agency said Sunday that at least 64 civilians have been killed and more than 160,000 are on the move after Russian troops entered Ukraine this week.
Pir Hossein Kolivand, the head of the Red Crescent Society of Iran, in a letter to Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, said that the Red Crescent Society (IRCS) is ready to help civilians in Ukraine.
The text of the letter reads: "The Red Crescent Society is ready to send rapid reaction teams, which specialize in rescue and health care, in line with humanitarian goals and assistance to victims of armed conflict, as well as relief and medical equipment, in coordination with the International Committee of the Red Cross to Ukraine."
Two months ago, Western officials rejected Russia's proposals on security guarantees, and Ukrainian officials rejected talks on implementing the Minsk agreement, including a ceasefire between Kyiv forces and the autonomous regions of eastern Ukraine.
In response, Russia recognized the independence of the republics of Luhansk and Donetsk, and at the request of the authorities of these regions, launched a special operation in support of them.
