Tehran (IP) - The Spokesman of Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs says coordination is underway to facilitate the exit of the Iranian nationals from Ukraine.

Iran PressIran news: Russia has launched "a special military operation" in Ukraine on Thursday. Russia's President Vladimir Putin says he had no other choice than to launch the military operation to stop the Ukrainian military's interference in two eastern republics that have broken away from Ukraine. Russia perceives NATO's eastward expansion as a threat.

As tensions escalated in Ukraine, many countries called on their nationals to soon leave the Ukrainian soil. 

In response to the reporters on Friday, Saeed Khtibzadeh, the Spokesman of Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said the Iranian Embassy in Kyiv was in constant contact with the Iranian nationals, especially students living in Ukraine, and was responding to their questions either in-person or through the phone.

Khtibzadeh also said if possible, and if the Ukrainian government issued permissions ensuring the safety of the sky, the Iranians would be transferred to their homeland through flights. 

He pointed to the latest measures taken by the foreign ministry. He also told the reporters that Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian called on his Hungarian counterpart to facilitate the transference of the Iranian nationals through Hungary's joint borders with Ukraine.

Criticizing the West for not recognizing Moscow's security concerns, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 21 that his country had recognized the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's republics, having signed cooperation and friendship agreements with their leaders at the Kremlin.

The US and Europe began to exert diplomatic and economic pressures on Russia.

Yet, the US and NATO have refused to dispatch forces to help Ukraine. 

Ukraine knew itself as an ally of the US.
