New York (IP): UN secretary general maintained that the situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territories continues to be a significant challenge to international peace and security.

Iran PressAmerica: In 1977, the United Nations General Assembly called for the annual observance of 29 November as the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, adapting the resolution 32/40 B.

Speaking at the 2022 opening session of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, Antonio Guterres urged the international community to “urgently” intensify efforts to resolve the conflict and end the occupation in line with UN resolutions, international law and bilateral agreements.

Reiterating the fact that  the  two States  solution should be pursuit, UN secretary general  said: “There is no plan B”,

Guterres remains concerned with territory-wide violence, including with settlers and during military operations, that have led to numerous deaths.

Citing continued illegal settlements, demolitions, and evictions, he said the situation is feeding hopelessness, animosity and diminishing prospects for a negotiated solution.

“All settlement activity is illegal. It must stop”, he spelled out.

As the international community works towards reviving the political process, Guterres stressed the need to improve the economic and humanitarian situation in Palestine.
