Iran Press/ Iran News: Finland Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto paid an official visit to Tehran on 7 February 2022.
During his one-day visit, Haavisto is scheduled to meet with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi as well as heads of the Iranian offices of the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and the UN Assistance Mission to Afghanistan (UNAMA) as well as other representatives of the international bodies.
He met with His Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, also.
Following their meeting, in a joint press conference with his Iranian counterpart, Pekka Haavisto said: "Iran was among the first countries to recognize Finland's independence 90 years ago and is one of the most important countries for Finland and one of the most important countries in the region."
Haavisto added: "Today we were able to discuss various issues. Finland is a member of the European Union, and we hope that cooperation between Iran and the European Union will increase, and we exchanged views on this today."
The Finnish foreign minister said what happened to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) was disappointing, and the European countries have always supported the agreement.
Haavisto highlighted that his country and Europe had high hopes for the EU-Iran trading mechanism known as Instrument in Support of Trade Exchanges (INSTEX), saying: "We look forward to reaching an agreement on the Vienna talks."
He said that EU Foreign Policy Chief Joseph Borrell was also very active in finding a solution and continuing cooperation concerning the JCPOA.

The Finnish diplomat pointed to the regional issues and stated: "The region's stability is very important for us, and Iran is a very important player, and Hossein Amir- Abdollahian, the Iranian Foreign Minister, explained the situation in Syria and Yemen.
He stressed the issue of Afghanistan, saying: "I had the honor to meet with the representative of the Iranian government in Afghanistan, Hassan Kazemi-Ghomi, and we know that Iran can play a very important role in Afghanistan and many immigrants come to Iran; Finland also supports this issue. With the help of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees we took the asylum seekers from Iran to Finland and we hope this will increase."
On Sep. 2021, Amir-Abdollahian and Pekka Haavisto discussed the latest developments in Afghanistan and the wider region, as well as issues of mutual interest in New York.
