Iran (IP)- The Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, extended a message of condolences on the demise of Ayatollah Sheikh Lotfollah Safi Golpayegani on Tuesday.

Iran PressIran news: Senior Iranian theologian the Grand Ayatollah Lotfollah Safi Golpaygani, who was the author of several notable books on Shia jurisprudence, passed away on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at 103.

In a Tuesday message, the Leader condoled the demise of Ayatollah Lotfollah Safi Golpaygani to his honorable family and his pupils at the seminary.

Ayatollah Khamenei said: "Unfortunately, I received the news of the demise of the supreme jurist and grand Marja, Ayatollah Haj Sheikh Lotfollah Safi Golpayegani. He was one of the pillars of the seminary of Qom and one of the prominent scientific and practical scholars and the most experienced religious scholar in that blessed seminary."

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution also pointed to Ayatollah Safi Golpaygani's revolutionary services and important responsibilities during the Islamic Republic. 

Ayatollah Khamenei added: "Poetic talent, historical memory, and dealing with social issues were other dimensions of the personality of this noble scholar. His demise is a great loss for the religious scientific community of the country."

Ayatollah Safi Golpayegani was born in 1919 in Golpayegan. He studied in seminaries of Qom under Grand Ayatollah Borujerdi. Also, he resided and taught in the Seminary of Qom. Ayatollah Safi was a supporter of the Islamic Revolution in Iran.

He authored more than 150 works in Persian and Arabic, 80 of which were translated into other languages. He was also a skilled poet.
