The United States and the European Union on Monday in a concerted action boycotted a number of Nicaraguan institutions and officials.

Iran Press/America: The US Treasury Department announced on the day of the inauguration of Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega that it had added six US officials, including the Nicaraguan Secretary of Defense, to its sanctions list.

The European Union (EU) has announced sanctions against seven Nicaraguan authorities and three institutions.

The United States and the European Union have previously threatened to impose sanctions on Nicaragua, calling the recent general election "undemocratic."

Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega won the 2021 presidential election last November by a majority of votes.
