Turkey recorded 68,413 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the highest daily figure on record, health ministry data showed on Thursday, amid surging infections due to the Omicron variant of coronavirus.

Iran PressAsia: In the past 24 hours, 68,413 people in the country have been infected with the Coronavirus and 156 Turkish citizens have died of Covid-19 disease, the Turkish Ministry of Health announced on Thursday night.

With this new statistic, the number of people infected with the coronavirus in Turkey increased to 9 million 787 thousand 274 people. The number of victims of the virus in Turkey also reached 83,231.

To date, some 61 percent of people in Turkey have had two shots of the Covid-19 vaccine, with the vaccination rate among adults running at over 80 percent, according to the ministry. 219
