Tehran (IP) - The Islamic Republic of Iran commemorates the memories of the Armenian martyrs in the Christmas celebrations.

Iran Press / Iran News: In the Eight years of Holy Defense in the Iraq Baathist regime imposed war against Iran, the Armenian citizen fought alongside the Iranian Muslims, sacrificed their lives for Iran, were martyred, disabled, and imprisoned in the frontlines.

In the final days of September 1980, immediately after Saddam's regime invasion, Iranian religious minorities rushed to defend their homeland.

First, 400 Iranian Christians who had previously passed military services participated in defending the country in the operations on frontlines.

The Iranian Christians community including Armenian ethnicity and Assyrian has sacrificed 221 martyrs,1102 disabled, and 48 were prisoners of war.

Ayatollah Khamenei, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, has paid visits to the families of Armenian martyrs and religious minorities in Iran many times in recent years.

The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi, said last Friday during a meeting with the family of "Martyr Vartan Agakhanian" that "Anyone who is ready to sacrifice his life for the homeland, the people and the security of society is dear and respected by the Iranian nation and that is why the martyrs are source of pride for Iran and the Iranians."
