The Foreign Minister stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran will not accept any obligation beyond the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in the Vienna negotiations on the removal of anti-Iran sanctions.

Iran PressIran news: In a telephone conversation with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Wednesday night, Hossein Amirabdollahian discussed the nuclear talks in Vienna and some issues of common concern.

Amirabdullahian said: "The Iranian negotiating team in Vienna talks has the necessary authority and is seriously trying to reach a good agreement."

He cited the lack of initiative on the part of the West as one of the reasons for the slow progress in the negotiations, stressing: "We have presented two texts on the issue of lifting nuclear sanctions and these texts are in accordance with the JCPOA, and we have not made any demands beyond the JCPOA, and at the same time, we do not accept any obligation beyond the JCPOA."

"The Iranian side has made good proposals in the negotiations, which can be the basis for a lasting agreement," he added.

The Iranian top diplomat stated, "We have always emphasized that the complete lifting of the nuclear sanctions is necessary to address the alleged concerns of the Western parties."

He referred to voluntary action by Iran to allow the replacement of damaged cameras at the TESA Complex in Karaj, saying, "Following the condemnation of the sabotage of the Karaj site by the Secretary-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, we declared in good faith that we will allow the installation of cameras on the site."

Amirabdollahian went on to say, "We seek a good agreement with good faith and active initiative, but we do not tolerate the language of threats in any way. Western parties should know that threatening language against Iran has the opposite effect."

The two sides continued to address the issue of Lebanon.

Amirabdollahian said, "We have always supported the national unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Lebanon," Amirabdullahian said, adding, "The Islamic Republic of Iran supports efforts to assist Lebanon."

"The international community should deal with the Zionist regime's aggression against Lebanon," he added.

For his part, the UN Secretary-General called the Vienna talks important and said: "We believe that the JCPOA is an important document and is very useful for international peace and stability."

Antonio Guterres added: "The United Nations' position on the JCPOA has always been clear and unequivocal, and we have supported it."

While praising Iran for its cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency, the UN Secretary-General described the move as a sign of Tehran's good cooperation with the IAEA, which will have a positive impact on the confidence-building process during the negotiations.

"We will use all the tools of the United Nations to bring the Vienna talks to a good conclusion," he said.

Guterres also said that the purpose of his visit to Lebanon was to help build unity and convergence among the Lebanese people, adding he believed that the problems of Lebanon could be solved by the Lebanese people.
