Spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Behrouz Kamalvandi said that by confronting sanctions we should teach a lesson to the US.

IranPress/Iran: Spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Behrouz Kamalvandi in an exclusive interview with ISNA on Monday said: “As our country’s leaders have vowed we should keep fighting on this battlefield to make the Americans realize that the sanctions will not succeed".

"As Henry Kissinger has said the JCPOA withdrawal has created a gap in the United States, on the one hand and between the US and the EU on the other hand”, the AEOI spokesman added.

Kamalvandi also said that the JCPOA put an end to six Security Council resolutions.

“I personally believe that remaining in the JCPOA is better than leaving it though other Establishment officials may have different views in that regard, which will be announced later when the time arrives", the AEOI spokesman noted.

Meanwhile, answering a question about the latest developments in the Arak reactor updating project, Kamalvandi stated: “according to the Resolution 2231, even if the United Nations Security Council resolutions on Iran would return in any way, accords such as modernization of the Arak research reactor and producing stable radioisotope as part of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action’s (JCPOA) will remain and no limitation is considered for them”.

“if Iran stays in the JCPOA, the sanctions, both politically or economically speaking, will not be as effective as the previous round since many small and medium-sized countries could not do business with Iran due to EU and UN sanctions but this time they are able to cooperate [with Iran] despite the US pressures,” the AEOI spokesman said.

Considering the issue, American Senator Jack Reed said on Sunday that the US have lost the support of European allies over withdrawing from The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Finally, the nuclear spokesman cast doubt on the European countries’ ability to thoroughly resist US pressures and to protect Iran economy because “no one can deny that the world economy is not imaginable with the United States given its role in the financial, banking, industrial and technological systems.”

Kamalvandi concluded that the Europeans will have to be tough and decisive against the United States not only for sake of their economic interests but also for protecting their independent identity.

The AEOI spokesman also announced that in September, the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi will attend the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Annual Conference in Vienna.

Vladimir Putin's special envoy Alexander Lavrentiev on July has reiterated that unilateral sanctions against Iran are in clear breach of the international nuclear accord, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan Of Action (JCPOA ).

In this regard, European Union Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini  criticized US unilateral policies in the international arena with regard to Iran's nuclear dossier and said, “EU intends to support its companies in Iran legally after US pullout from Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).”
