Tehran (IP)- In a message congratulating the appointment of the new German Chancellor, the President announced Tehran's readiness to expand ties with Berlin.

Iran PressIran news: In his message to Chancellor Olaf Scholz, President Raisi said, "The relations between Iran and the Federal Republic of Germany, which are over one hundred and fifty years old, have provided a valuable legacy for the development of political, economic, and cultural relations between the two civilized nations.

He added: "I believe that by taking advantage of the opportunity, the two countries can establish useful and valuable cooperation in bilateral relations in an atmosphere based on mutual respect and interests." "The world is facing significant challenges," the President said in the message. "Resolving the challenges requires understanding the joint international responsibility and contributing to world peace, stability, and prosperity, and Iran is ready to expand interactions in this direction," the message reads.

As Angela Merkel decided to leave the chancellery in Berlin, ending 16 years of her leadership and 31-year political career, Scholz replaced her. The Bundestag backed him as Chancellor by 395 votes to 303. He was then formally appointed as the ninth federal Chancellor by President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

Olaf Scholz has been sworn in as Germany's new Chancellor, formally taking power after Angela Merkel's historic 16 years as leader.
