Tehran (IP) – First deputy prime minister of Azerbaijan said despite the two-year COVID-19 pandemic, the trade relations between Iran and Azerbaijan had increased by 22% in the last nine months.

Iran PressIran news: Speaking at a meeting on Sunday with Iran's Roads and Urban Development Minister Rostam Qasemi, the First Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Shahin Mustafayev, stated that so far, 2,000 Iranian companies have carried out successful projects in Azerbaijan.

Mustafayev, who leads the State Commission for Economic, Trade, and Cultural Cooperation of Azerbaijan and Iran, noted: "Coronavirus has had a negative impact on all countries, but Iran-Azerbaijan freight transport has not halted for a single day, and we must build new transport infrastructure, including bridges, to increase economic relations between the two countries."

Referring to the two countries' cultural, religious, and historical commonalities, he said bilateral cooperation increased.

"There are many capacities for cooperation between the two countries to be explored," he added.

Mustafayev expressed confidence that fruitful outcomes would accompany his journey to Iran.

He said Iran and Azerbaijan have joint projects in the energy field that will be completed soon.

He also referred to the car production cooperation and said: "We can cooperate with Iran in the production of car spare parts and also agricultural machinery."

He noted that the north-south corridor, which extends from Iran to Azerbaijan and Russia, is one of the two countries' projects.

"Today, Azerbaijan exports electricity to Iran; we are working on syncing Iran, Azerbaijan, and Russia's electricity grids," Mustafayev said.

"As for the education and culture sectors, Azerbaijan hosts 1,205 Iranian students," he highlighted.

"I am sure that today's talks will be fruitful to develop two countries' ties," Mustafayev said, adding that Azerbaijan has great potential for developing cooperation with Iran.
