Nangarhar (IP) - A blast was reported in a mosque in Afghanistan's Nangarhar province and at least 12 were wounded.

Iran PressAsia: A bomb went off shortly after noon inside a mosque in the Spin Ghar district of Nangarhar province.

According to the Iran Press reporter, at least fourteen people were injured and some of the injuries are reported to be serious.

An explosion hit a mosque in the Spin Ghar area of Nangarhar province in eastern Afghanistan during Friday prayers, wounding at least 12 people including the local mullah, a resident of the area said.

Atal Shinwari, a resident of the area, said the blast occurred at around 1:30 p.m. when explosives apparently located in the interior of the mosque detonated. Another resident gave a similar account.

A Taliban official said: "I can confirm a blast during Friday prayers inside a mosque in Spin Ghar district. There are casualties and fatalities."

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the apparent attack, the latest in a series of blasts to hit mosques in Afghanistan over recent weeks.

The mosque was attended by Sunni Muslims.

At least three people were killed and 15 wounded Friday by a blast at a mosque in Afghanistan's restive Nangarhar province, a hospital official told AFP.

"So far three killed, 15 wounded," a doctor at the local hospital said.
