Iran Press/ Asia: On the sidelines of the Troika Plus meeting in Islamabad, the Pakistani Foreign Minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, while appreciating the cooperation of the Islamic Republic of Iran with its neighbors, called Iran's role towards Afghanistan as responsible.
On Thursday, Pakistan hosted a meeting known as "Troika Plus" with envoys from the United States, China, and Russia for the first time since the Taliban took over Afghanistan on August 15, Iran Press reported.
In his speech, Qureshi stressed the need for continued cooperation between Afghanistan's peace beneficiaries, including neighbors and key actors in the region, to achieve the common goal of peace, stability, and lasting security.
He called on the international community to take immediate action to provide humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people, work together to overcome the humanitarian crisis, and provide economic aid.
"Islamabad is a strong supporter of continuing consultations with regional actors, especially Afghanistan's main neighbors, to help resolve the country's problems," the Pakistani Foreign Minister said on the sidelines of the Troika Plus meeting with government media.
He also praised our country for contributing to peace and stability in Afghanistan by describing Iran's role in cooperating with its neighbors as responsible.
Referring to Pakistan's consultations with Afghanistan's neighbors, including Iran, and inviting Russia to attend the second meeting of Afghanistan's neighbors' foreign ministers in Tehran, Qureshi said The interim government of the Taliban is to be invited to participate in the next meeting in Beijing to discuss concerns and demands directly with them.
Meanwhile, a delegation from Afghanistan headed by Amir Khan Muttaqi, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Taliban interim government, arrived in Islamabad on Wednesday evening local time.
It will be a three-day official visit, and members of the Taliban delegation are scheduled to meet with Pakistani political and military officials and members of the Troika Plus.
Shah Mahmoud Qureshi attended the second meeting of foreign ministers of Afghanistan's neighboring countries held in Tehran on October 27, 2021. Also, he met with the President and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The Pakistani Foreign Minister also paid an official visit to Tehran on August 26 and met with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Hossein Amir- Abdollahian, to discuss regional developments in Afghanistan and the strengthening of bilateral relations.
