The Islamic Republic of Iran became a permanent member of the United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation (UNSCEAR), despite opposition from Israel and the US obstruction.

Iran PressAmerica: Following several rounds of negotiations on the draft resolution submitted by Australia to the Special Political and Decolonization Committee and its unanimous approval by the UN General Assembly, the Islamic Republic of Iran was able to upgrade its status from "observer" to "full membership".

Iran has been invited to introduce a nuclear scientist to participate in the UNSCEAR meetings.

The draft was introduced by the representative of Australia, who noted that the COVID‑19 pandemic has continued to impact the operations of the United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation (UNSCEAR), requiring the extension of its Chairmanship for an additional session.

The Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations said: "Iran attaches great importance to the scientific work of the committee and its goals." Majid Takht Ravanchi, in response to the false claims of the Israeli representative, who was angry with Iran for being a member of the committee, said: "Throughout history, Israel has consistently and blatantly violated hundreds of UN resolutions, and has been and continues to be an aggressor, occupier, and war criminal, and these cannot be forgotten."

He also stated: "The Zionist regime has not adhered to the rules and regulations prohibiting the production, development and stockpiling of weapons of mass destruction, and its arsenals, given the regime's threatening temperament against world peace and security, threaten the regional stability."

Takht Ravanchi praised the acceptance of our country as a permanent member of the Atomic Radiation Scientific Committee and said: "The world must be fully aware of Israel's illegal actions and threats against regional peace and security."
