China Foreign Minister Wang Yi

Tehran (IP) – Chinese foreign minister expressed hope to contribute to peace and stability in Afghanistan.

Iran PressIran News: At a meeting of foreign ministers of Afghanistan's neighbors plus Russia, China's Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, said: "We believe that the second meeting of the foreign ministers of Afghanistan's neighboring countries was held at a good time and this will strengthen the diplomatic channels established between us in this regard."

"So far, we have moved in the right direction at this summit, and we hope that we can all contribute to peace and stability in Afghanistan," he stated.

The Chinese foreign minister noted that China has consulted with representatives of various countries on Afghanistan and has held consultations in Kabul.

"China will continue its cooperation with various countries on the Afghanistan issue so that the situation in this country will improve and the Afghan people can have a better life," Wang Yi added.

The summit is underway today with the participation of four foreign ministers, including Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Pakistan, and with the online attendance of the Chinese and Russian foreign ministers and special representatives of the two countries.

The UN Secretary-general, António Guterres, also addressed the meeting via video message.

Foreign ambassadors based in Tehran have also attended the meeting.
