Iran Press/ Middle East: Lebanese took to the streets to protest an order by a judge investigating the case of Beirut Port blast in August 2020 to detain several Lebanese ministers and representatives.
Meanwhile, snipers stationed on the roofs of the neighboring buildings at the demonstration scene targeted unarmed civilians in front of the Palace of Justice in the al-Tayouneh area of Beirut, killing and wounding several protesters, Iran press reported, quoting Al-Manar.
Al-Mayadeen correspondent in Lebanon reported that six peaceful protesters were killed and 60 wounded after being shot by snipers in the Tayouneh area of Beirut.
One of the perpetrators of the shooting has been arrested by Lebanon Army.
One of the victims was a woman who was killed after being hit by a bullet in the head while in her house.
Media reports said that snipers are militants affiliated with the Lebanese Forces Party.
Reports indicated that at least four gunmen were shooting from a building in Tayouneh, where they holed up. The Army is trying to arrest several suspects.
Meanwhile, the Lebanese Army issued a statement in which it said that a group of demonstrators came under fire attack in the Tayouneh-Badaro area.
The Lebanese Army warned that its units would fire at any militant in the region.
Also, two explosions were heard in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, after clashes broke out near the protest site.
Lebanese President Michel Aoun followed up on the developments with Prime Minister Najib Mikati and ministers of defense and interior and with the army chief, Lebanon NNA noted.
Earlier on Wednesday, Hezbollah and Amal movement called on supporters to rally near the Justice Palace to call for non-politicization of the probe into the Beirut Port blast.
Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Nasrallah slammed Judge Tarek Bitar's judicial investigator, accusing him of bias and politicizing the probe.
Sayyed Nasrallah stressed that Hezbollah is keen to reveal the truth in the Beirut Port blast case but noted that the judicial investigator should take the unbiased judicial course, away from politicization.
