New method of protest against Israel in Bahrain

Manama (IP) - Bahraini citizens protested against the presence of the Israeli regime in this country in a new style.

Iran Press/Middle East: Bahraini activists placed an Israeli flag at the doorstep of a mosque in Bahrain in protest of Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid's visit to open an Israeli embassy in the country last week.

They say the normalization of relation with Israel is a betrayal of an Islamic Ummah.

The move marks a significant step forward in normalizing Manama and Tel Aviv's ties after a September 15, 2020 event at the White House during which Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates signed "normalization" deals with the Israeli regime called Abraham Accords.

Earlier, Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society, Bahrain's most prominent opposition group, had called on the United Nations to intervene in the kingdom's unbridled push to deepen its relations with the Israeli regime, saying the move falls short of the general population's consent.

The Society released the statement on October 18, 2020, as the two sides are expected to sign a "joint communique on establishing peaceful and diplomatic relations" during a visit by Israeli and US delegations to the Bahraini capital Manama.

Iran has constantly been warning of the dangers of normalizing relations between some Arab states and Israel since the signing of the Abraham Accords.

Analysts and commentators also believe that the peace deals may not last long given the strong opposition across the region and the lack of historical bonds between Israel and the Arab world.
