Iran Press/ Iran News: Giuseppe Perrone told Iran Press in an exclusive interview on Monday that the donation was a sign of Italy's enduring friendship and cooperation with Iran. "We wanted to make this donation to the friendly country and people of Iran not just because this is a global fight against the pandemic so we are not save until everyone else is safe, but also because we have special ties and bonds of friendship and centuries-old cooperation with Iran."
Speaking on the sidelines of a ceremony on Italy's efforts in contribution to Iran in the global fight against the COVID-19, Mr. Perrone said: "Today we announced the donation of 1.2 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine through the COVAX mechanism to Iran".
Perrone added that the attempt was more than a mere humanitarian gesture and was more about the existing friendship and cooperation between the peoples of Iran and Italy.
Along with Iranian officials from the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Iran's Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and representatives of the United Nations in Iran, prominent Italian virologists Professor Bassetti of the San Marino Polyclinic and Professor Pontali of Galliera Hospital in Genoa were present at the ceremony held at the ambassador's residence in Tehran.
