Iran's Foreign Minister said that the assassination of Lieutenant General Ghasem Soleimani by the US on Iraq's soil is a blatant example of such terrorism.

Iran Press/America: Hossein Amirabdollahian made the remarks in a meeting with UN General Assembly President Abdulla Shahid in New York on Thursday.

He pointed out that a legal and international committee has been formed in Iran for prosecuting the assassination of General Soleimani and bringing the sponsors and perpetrators of such crime to justice.

He said, "Of course the UN can play an important role in this regard."

Iran's top diplomat pointed to the constructive role of the Islamic Republic of Iran in cooperation with the regional countries in fighting terrorism from Lebanon to Iraq and Afghanistan, saying the sanctions have turned into a terrorists' tool against the nations.

He said that it was expected from the UN General Assembly to stand up against the US lawlessness and unilateralism by empowering multilateralism.

Iran's foreign minister also regretted that the US has extended its economic terrorism to health and pharmaceutical terrorism, emphasizing the need for giving a serious response by the international community to such US approach.

Amirabdollahian also congratulated Shahid for his appointment as president of the UN General Assembly and invited him to pay a visit to Iran.
