The legal, technical, and administrative procedures have begun for Iran's membership in Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.

Iran PressIran news: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement on Friday evening, said: "As a result of the continuous pursuit of the Ministry for the permanent membership of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, these measures have doubled since the beginning of the 13th government."

"As the President participated at the 21st Shanghai Summit in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, all the main member states of the organization agreed by consensus on Iran's permanent membership in the organization," the statement added.

"Expressing satisfaction with this positive achievement for the country, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is committed to using all its specialized capacities for the necessary coordination with other relevant agencies and the Secretariat of the Shanghai Organization so that the legal and administrative process of Iran's membership can be completed as soon as possible," said the statement.

"Accepting the application of the Islamic Republic of Iran for membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization is an important step and will play a positive role in developing cooperation and relations between Tehran and SCO member states in the regional, and international dimensions," it stated.

The statement concluded, "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its gratitude to all SCO member states for agreeing to the membership of the Islamic Republic of Iran and will use active diplomacy to strengthen relations with the other member countries within the framework of the organization."
