Iran's Foreign Minister stressed that Tehran favors an Afghanistan which is free from war and terrorism.

Iran PressIran news: Hossein Amirabdollahian made the remarks in a phone conversation with the former President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai on Tuesday.

The two sides reviewed the latest developments in Afghanistan.

Amirabdollahian emphasized the principled policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran which is based on dialogue between all groups to form an inclusive government in Afghanistan.

"Since such a policy reflects the ethnic and demographic composition of Afghanistan, it can lead to lasting peace," he added.

The Foreign Minister underlined, "Iran is going to keep its borders and border crossings with Afghanistan open to facilitate mutual trade."

"The US is responsible for the two-decades-long chaos in Afghanistan," he said, stressing that now is the time for the Afghan people to end this situation.

For his part, Karzai said that Afghanistan's elders are doing their best to overcome the situation and the main goal is to fulfill the will of the Afghan people.

Appreciating Iran's positions and efforts, Karzai said that together with other elders, he was consulting with various groups, including the Taliban, and asked for Iran's assistance to this end.
