Tehran (IP) - Iran honored the martyrdom anniversary of the then-President Mohammad-Ali Rajai and Prime Minister Mohammad-Javad Bahonar, which is also marked as the National Day of Fight Against Terrorism in Iran.

Iran PressIran news: A commemoration ceremony was held at the place where martyrs Mohammad-Ali Rajai, Mohammad-Javad Bahonar, and their companions were laid to rest 40 years ago on August 30, a day on which the terrorist group Mujahedin-e-Khalq organization (MKO) detonated Prime Minister's Office in Tehran.

On August 30, 1981, the MKO blasted a bomb at the office of Prime Minister Mohammad-Javad Bahonar in downtown Tehran that martyred senior Iranian officials, including Prime Minister Bahonar and President Rajai.

Since the 1979 Revolution, Iran has suffered a lot from terrorism, while the MKO spearheaded the terrorism campaign against Iranian civilians and government officials, killing over 17,000 Iranian citizens.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mohammad Hosseini, Vice-President for Parliamentary Affairs, said: "The MKO terrorist group, which is under the umbrella of Western protection, used to describe Iranian officials like martyr Beheshti as violent."

"Martyr Rajai, who was very humble, and Martyr Bahonar, who was also a scientific figure, sacrificed their lives to preserve the Islamic establishment, and their period, although short, is a brilliant period in the history of the Islamic Revolution," he noted.
