Pakistani Foreign Minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi

Islamabad (IP): Pakistani Foreign Minister stressed the importance of consultation with Tehran to establish lasting peace in Afghanistan.

Iran PressAsia: Afghanistan's peace is inevitable for its neighbors," Shah Mahmood Qureshi who is scheduled to travel to the region including the Islamic Republic of Iran from tomorrow, was quoted as saying on Monday.

He stressed: "Islamabad seeks a regional consultation for Afghanistan and emphasizes that the role of neighbors in contributing to peace and stability in Afghanistan is a priority."

Referring to his plans to visit Iran, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, Qureshi said: "We want the participation of all domestic groups in Afghanistan to form a national and inclusive government."

Rejecting rumors of a trip to Afghanistan or a secret visit to Kabul, he said: "Some media outlets in the subcontinent have provoked and created an atmosphere aimed at destroying the efforts of neighboring countries to help Afghanistan."

Qureshi added: "As Afghanistan's immediate neighbors, we must consider the efforts of the opposition and the enemies of peace, because the saboteurs are still trying to sabotage."

The Pakistani foreign ministry spokesman had previously announced that Qureshi would travel to several countries in the region, including the Islamic Republic of Iran, as part of Islamabad's diplomatic efforts for peace in Afghanistan.

Diplomatic sources in Pakistan said that the Minister of Foreign Affairs would leave for regional trips on Tuesday.
