Iran wants powerful Iraq: New Pres. Raisi

Tehran (IP) - The new Iranian President said that the Islamic Republic of Iran wants a powerful Iraq.

Iran PressIran news: Receiving the Iraqi President Barham Salih on Thursday, Ebrahim Raisi pointed to Iraq's upcoming election and expressed hope that it would prepare the grounds for the realization of the Iraqi nation's demands.  

"In order to preserve Iraq's territorial integrity, security and stability, Iran has not hesitated to sacrifice its dearest guys such as Former IRGC's Quds Force Commander Lieutenant General Qasem Soleimani," Raisi recalled.

He also highlighted the Arbaeen event as the unique ritual marching ceremony and called for the facilitation of the Iranian pilgrims' travel to Iraq's holy cities and participation in the Arbaeen March.

The Iraqi President Barham Salih for his part referred to the potentials for expansion of the two countries' ties and stressed the redefinition of the security measures that should be taken in Iraq.

"It is not possible to lead the developments in the region towards the establishment of inclusive stability and security without the presence of independent and powerful Iran and Iraq," Barham Salih noted. 

The Iraqi President appreciated Iran's sacrifices in fighting against terrorism in Iraq and pointed out: "It is recorded in history that Iran is a friend of Iraq during the hard times, and this issue will always be a beacon for the future of relations between the two countries."
