Tehran (IP): In the absence of the British ambassador, the UK chargé d'affaires was summoned to the Iranian Foreign Ministry over the British Foreign Secretary's allegations against Iran on blaming Tehran for a deadly attack on an Israeli ship in the Persian Gulf.

Iran Press/Iran news: The Liberian-flagged ship MV Mercer Street, a tanker operated by an Israeli-owned firm, reportedly came under attack off the coast of Oman..

A British national and a Romanian citizen were killed.

In a statement on Sunday, UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said London believed Iran had used one or more drones against the MV Mercer Street, calling it "deliberate, targeted, and a clear violation of international law."

Expressing regret over the baseless accusation of the British Foreign Secretary, the director of the Foreign Ministry's third department of Western Europe announced that these hasty and contradictory statements were rejected and strongly condemned.

The Iranian diplomat stated: "This is not the first UK baseless accusation against Iran; it had earlier accused Iran that have never been proven.”

He added that Iran had always considered the Persian Gulf as a safe waterway for the passage of ships and had tried to strengthen its security.

The director of the Foreign Ministry's third department of Western Europe stressed the ships and armies of other countries, not Iran, as the main source of instability in the Persian Gulf.

In the end, while warning about any adventure of the Israeli regime or others, the Iranian official considered the definite policy of the Islamic Republic to be self-defense and a decisive response to any adventure.
