Iran Press/ Asia: According to the reports, at about 16:00 (GMT+4) on July 23, units of the Armenian Armed Forces from positions in the Basarkecher region fired at the positions of the Azerbaijani Army on the Kalbajar district of the Armenian-Azerbaijani state border in which a serviceman of the Azerbaijani Army, junior officer Farman Yagublu, was killed.
At present, the units of the Azerbaijani Army deployed in the direction are taking retaliatory actions.
“By resorting to such provocations, the Armenian side aims to aggravate the situation on the state border of the two countries. All responsibility for this provocation lies with Armenia,” the defense ministry stated.
On the other hand, the Armenian media reported that an Azerbaijani UAV was shot down over the Arazdeyen village of the Vedi region.
Azerbaijani Defense Ministry called it misinformation of the opposing side and said that their units did not take off any UAV into the air.
Iran's position:
Reacting to the border clashes between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia, Saeed Khatibzadeh, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, expressed regret over people's deaths and injuries on both sides stressed the need for restraint and peaceful settlement of border disputes.
The Foreign Ministry spokesman also called the two countries to ease tensions and conflicts and achieve lasting peace in the South Caucasus region as soon as possible. He also stressed Tehran's readiness to assist the parties in achieving lasting peace.
