Health minister:

Tehran (IP) - Iran's health minister said on Sunday that nationwide vaccination must be extended to 500,000-700,000 daily to decrease COVID impacts.

Iran PressIran news: Speaking at the meeting with the Iranian universities' presidents and the heads of Basij departments, Saeed Namaki stated that vaccination would be accelerated across the country with Basij Organization's and medical universities' cooperation.

Highlighting that Iran has treated 250,000 Afghan nationals for free, he noted that some Afghans over political tensions and changes trespass the country that they should be quarantined and treated to prevent COVID-19 surges.

"Unfortunately, some parts of the country are experiencing the fifth COVID-19 wave but with cooperation of the IRGC, Basij, and Armed Forces, the disease is under control," the high-ranking official said.

He explained that the UK and African variants had entered Iran through western and northwestern borders and surged in Hormozgan, West Azarbaijan, Qom, and Sistan and Baluchestan province.

Namaki added that Sistan and Baluchestan are under control, but Hormozgan is in critical condition.

The meeting on evaluating the 'Martyr Soleimani Plan' to fight COVID-19 and the fifth coronavirus wave across Iran were held at Health Ministry on Sunday with the Health Minister Saeed Namaki, Commander of Basij Organization Brigadier-General Gholamreza Soleimani, and presidents of medical universities.
