Silicide fuel production is for Tehran research reactor: Iran

Tehran (IP) - Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said Silicon fuel plate produced from 20% enriched uranium has peaceful usage and will be used in the Tehran research reactor.

Iran Press/Iran News: Saeed Khatibzadeh, in response to the statement of Britain, France, and Germany Foreign Ministries who expressed concern over Iran's decision to produce 20% uranium silicon fuel, said that the decision of the Islamic Republic of Iran to produce silicon fuel plate using 20% enriched uranium is for peaceful purposes of Tehran research reactor.

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman added: "Contrary to the claims of these countries, this product has medicinal and humanitarian usage, and it has informed to the International Atomic Energy Agency, moreover that its production does not contradict Iran's obligations."

Khatibzadeh emphasized: "While these countries consider Iran's actions as violating the obligations of JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action), they themselves have never fulfilled their obligations under JCPOA, and they are enforcing extraterritorial and illegal US sanctions."

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman stressed: We have repeatedly emphasized that Iran is ready to stop its compensatory measures as soon as the oppressive sanctions are lifted and to resume the fulfillment of its obligations fully.

No one should expect Iran to unilaterally abide by its commitments while under intense pressure from US unilateral sanctions, he added.

US State Department spokesman's position on this issue is unacceptable, and the United States is concerned about Iran's actions. At the same time, the current situation in JCPOA is due to its own illegal and unilateral actions. Moreover, the Biden government has continued to implement the failed policy of Trump's maximum pressure against the Iranian people, Khatibzadeh stated.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman stressed: "The Islamic Republic of Iran has always announced its readiness to re-implement its obligations in the event of the lifting of US sanctions."
