Palestinians demand ouster of Mahmoud Abbas

Tehran (IP) - Hundreds of Palestinians marched in the city of Ramallah to demand the ouster of the head of the Palestinian Authority.

Iran PressMiddle East: Hundreds of Palestinians marched on Saturday to protest the killings of Nizar Banat, a Palestinian activist, who was arrested about ten days ago and beaten by the security apparatus of the Palestinian Authority (PA).

Nizar Banat's family was also present at the march.

Demonstrators holding pictures of Nizar Banat chanted slogans against the PA and security officials and demanded the ouster of Mahmoud Abbas, the PA's head, and blamed him for the murder of Banat and the suppression of public freedoms.

The security forces of the Palestinian Authority also opposed the march and prevented the demonstrators from moving towards the headquarters of the Palestinian Authority.

"According to an initial forensic report, Nizar Banat was physically assaulted in several areas of his body and fell into a coma while being transferred to a security detention center, and the reason for his death was the shocking blows," said Mohammed al-Shalaldeh, the Palestinian Minister of Justice and head of the committee investigating Nizar Banat's death.
