Unilateral sanctions; crime against humanity: Iran envoy to UN

Vienna (IP) - Iran's Permanent Representative to the United Nations called coercive actions such as sanctions illegal, inhumane, and crime against humanity.

Iran PressAmerica: During a virtual meeting, initiated by Iran and 9 other countries, to review the effects of unilateral actions on the people of the target countries, on Thursday, Majid Takht-Ravanchi said: "Unilateral coercive actions, including sanctions, are illegal, immoral and inhumane. These are blatant violations of international law and basic human rights.”

Iran's permanent representative to the United Nations added: "The Islamic Republic of Iran, as a country that has been hit hard by the coronavirus, has been under long-term sanctions for years. These illegal actions have prevented banks and financial institutions from trading with Iran.”

"The consequences of such sanctions have severely threatened Iranians' health, access to essential medicines, medical equipment, and pharmaceuticals and medical products," according to Takht-Ravanchi.
