Baku (IP) - The Azerbaijan Republic's president announced his country's readiness to start negotiations on signing a peace agreement with Armenia.

Iran PressAsia: In a telephone conversation with the European Union Council President, Charles Michel, on Wednesday, Ilham Aliev said that Armenia did not so far respond to the message of Azerbaijan's Republic. 

The telephone conversation, initiated by the President of the Council of the European Union, discussed security and stability issues in the region following the signing of a tripartite statement by the Presidents of Azerbaijan, Russia, and the Prime Minister of Armenia at the end of the Nagorno-Karabakh war.

The European Union Council President invited the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia to hold talks on a constructive basis. 

Michel also announced the readiness of the European Union to assist the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia in defining the borders between the two countries and establishing trust between Baku and Yerevan.

He also called on both countries to address the issue of some detainees, clearing liberated territories in Nagorno-Karabakh of unexploded mines and addressing other humanitarian issues.
