President Rouhani congratulates anniversary of Azerbaijani Republic

Tehran (IP) - In a message on Friday, the Iranian President congratulated the government and people of the Republic of Azerbaijan on that country's Independence Day.

Iran Press/Asia: Referring to the Republic of Azerbaijan's rich culture, which shares much in common with Iran's, President Rouhani expressed certainty that the relations between the two neighboring countries would progress more than before.

In his message to his Azeri counterpart Ilham Aliyev, Rouhani wrote that Iran and Azerbaijan have had brotherly relations since the independence of Azerbaijan and showed good neighborliness.

Moreover, In his message, he wished health and success for President Aliev and prosperity for the Azerbaijan people.

Earlier, In another message, Rouhani had congratulated the National Day of the Ethiopian Federal Democratic Republic and expressed hope that bilateral relations and ties between the two countries would be further developed.

In his message to the President of the Democratic Ethiopian Federal Government, Ms. Sahle-Work Zewde, Hassan Rouhani underlined: "I cordially congratulate your majesty and the people of your country on the occasion of the National Day of the Ethiopian Federal Democratic Republic."

Ethiopia is on record as the only African country that successfully fended off colonial rule, and it celebrates every May 28 as its National Day.

This year marks the 26th anniversary of the day, which started in 1991.
