Tehran (IP) - Iranian Foreign Minister, in a phone talk with his Syrian counterpart on Wednesday, supported the legitimacy of the Syria Presidential Election.

Iran PressIran News: Mohammad Javad Zarif, in conversation with Faisal Mekdad, also stressed Syria’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and the importance of the upcoming presidential election in the Syrian society.

The two ministers discussed bilateral, regional, and international issues.

Mekdad described Syria’s readiness to hold the elections and its relations with the neighboring countries.

He also invited Zarif to visit Syria, and the Iranian foreign minister welcomed the invitation.

Regional issues, including developments in Iraq, Palestine, the all-out war on terrorism, and Israel’s attacks on Syria, Palestine, and Lebanon, were also discussed in the conversation.

Also, both foreign ministers stressed full support for the Palestinian people.

The Syrian Supreme Constitutional Court announced Monday ( April 3rd) that three candidacy applications for running president are accepted.

Syrian President Bashar Hafez al-Assad, Abdullah Salloum Abdullah, and Mahmoud Ahmad Mar’ai will run for president.

The Syrian Presidential Elections will be held on 26 May 2021.
