Salih calls for instant probe into Baghdad blast

After announcing three days of public mourning in Iraq by the Iraqi Prime Minister, the President of Iraq called for an immediate investigation into the explosion at Ibn al-Khatib Hospital in Baghdad.

Iran PressMiddle East: According to Shafaq News, following the explosion of an oxygen tank at Ibn al-Khatib Hospital in Baghdad, killing at least 27 patients suffering COVID-19 and injuring 46 others, Iraqi President Barham Salih issued a statement called for an instant probe into the incident and demanded the arrest of those whose carelessness caused the accident.

The statement from Iraqi President Barham Salih said: "We support the decision of the government and the parliament to immediately investigate the cause of this incident, to take necessary measures to hold the careless people accountable, and to mobilize all efforts to treat the injured."

At least 83 patients diagnosed with COVID-19 were killed and 102 others were injured when an oxygen tank exploded at Ibn al-Khatib Hospital in Iraq, medical sources said.

"The incident at Ibn al-Khatib Hospital affects the national security of Iraq," Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kazemi said in a statement in response to the blast.

“This incident is evidence of failure and needs to be investigated immediately,” added he.

"Negligence is not just a mistake, it is a crime that all negligent people must be held accountable," the statement said.
