The United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) announced on Friday that security forces in Myanmar have occupied more than 60 schools and university centers across the country.

Iran PressAmerica: In at least one incident, Myanmar security forces beat two teachers and injured several others as they entered the scene, UNICEF and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization said in a joint statement.

A joint UNICEF statement said the incidents were a sign of the escalation of the current crisis and a serious violation of children's rights. Under no circumstances should schools be used by security forces.

UNICEF and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) have also warned that the occupation of schools is exacerbating the learning crisis of some 12 million children and young people in Myanmar, who have been under severe pressure due to the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent school closures.

UN child rights agencies have called on Myanmar security forces to evacuate the occupied areas immediately and ensure that these areas are not used by military or security personnel.

A month and a half have passed since the February 1 coup in Myanmar, and the nationwide protest movement in various cities continues, leading to the paralysis of the economy and government activities. 219
