Iran Press/ America: David Fincher’s meditation on old Hollywood “Mank,” led the Oscar nominations on Monday with 10 total nods, including for best picture, director, actor and supporting actress. Voters recognized a diverse set of films, with six nominations each going to “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” “Sound of Metal,” “Nomadland,” “Minari,” “Judas and the Black Messiah” and “The Father.”
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences unveiled its nominations Monday morning for the 93rd Oscars, The New York Times reported.
Two women were nominated for best director - the first time more than one woman has been shortlisted for that prize in the awards' 93-year history.
Chloe Zhao is nominated for directing Nomadland, and Britain's Emerald Fennell is recognized for Promising Young Woman.
Other nominated stars include Frances McDormand, Glenn Close, Viola Davis, and the late Chadwick Boseman.
Mank, the black-and-white drama starring Oldman as Citizen Kane writer Herman Mankiewicz, leads the overall field with 10 nominations.
Khorshid (The Sun) by famous Iranian director Majid Majidi was among 15 international short films introduced to the 2021 Oscars which wasn't nominated.
This year's winners will be announced at the delayed ceremony on 25 April.
Mank with 10 nominations, The Father with, Judas and the Black Messiah, Minari, Nomadland, Sound of Metal, and The Trial of the Chicago 7 every movie with 6 nominations are the leading ones.
All of those films were nominated for best picture, along with “Promising Young Woman.”
