Tehran (IP) - A senior security official told Iran Press on Wednesday that the US' rhetoric and statements without practical measures were unacceptable to Iran and that only lifting sanctions after verification by Iran was acceptable.

Iran PressIran news: According to the security official familiar with the matter, the step-by-step policy is rejected by Iran. The only way for Iran to return to its obligations in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is to lift all sanctions. "The new US administration has failed to lift sanctions, and Tehran will not accept any formal or informal talks with the United States before the sanctions are lifted."

The security official stressed that if the sanctions were not lifted, the next steps would be taken to scale back Iran's obligations in the JCPOA in the near future, saying that other issues, such as Iran's defense and missile capabilities and Iran's presence in the region, had nothing to do with the JCPOA.

Pointing out that the only way to stop Iran from implementing Paragraph 36 of the JCPOA and reducing its obligations is to lift all sanctions, the high-ranking security official stressed, adding: “The sanctions which should be lifted include the Trump-era sanctions and the remaining Obama-era sanctions.”

"The well-informed security source concluded by saying: “The Obama era sanctions include the visa waiver program and the  Iranian Sanctions Act (ISA), which should be revoked in order for Iran to suspend the implementation of Paragraph 36 of the JCPOA (scaling back the obligations)."
